We long ago recognized that the hollow fork shaft, original equipment on all 1973 thru 1977 Kaw 900 models - is a serious weak spot in the transmission. Agressive shifting can bend and crack the shaft, and lock up the gear change mechanism.

Starting with the 1977 Kaw 1000's, Kawasaki used a much stronger solid steel shaft. These are NLA from Kawasaki, but we have fabricated them from 4130 steel for the engines we build.
