Half of the o-rings you get in those aftermarket rebuild kits are just plain wrong........ Do it the right way.....

Top Left: Choke plunger o-ring (4 per bike) for all 1973 
     thru 1980 900 and 1000 models ....  3.29 ea

for all 1976  & 1977 KZ900 models (VM26).........
for 1978 Z1-R models (VM28)

These o-rings seal the pump nozzle in the carb body.....
If you have a persistent leak at the back of the carb - and know the bowl gasket is good.... These are likely the culprit........
