What type of cam chain idler
tower does your bike have? Your engine may not have its original
idler tower on it....
Kawasaki used several different types of camchain idler brackets on the 1973 thru 1980 900 & 1000 models.... These are not interchangeable - The 900's and 1000's don't use the same Idler Dampers ..... Note that the "900" type dampers are different from top to bottom, and the "1000" type are the same top and bottom....Using the correct idler tower is essential for proper chain tension between the camshafts - On the left - This is the tower used on the 1973 thru 1977 900 models, which uses the dampers so marked above..... Center - This is the bracket used on the 1977 and 1978 1000 models..... There are 2 types: One has a bolt for removing the gear, and one doesn't - but both types use the "1977 thru 1980 1000" type dampers shown above..... Right - This bracket was used on the 1979 and 1980 1000's - and it also uses the "1977 thru 1980 1000" type dampers.... |
How bad can those guides and rollers get in an old
Kaw engine.......
These were taken from a Kaw 1000 that actually still
ran...but didn't run too well....
